Plug Power to supply GenEco electrolyzers to Carlton Power’s first phase of green hydrogen projects in the UK
With our partner, Schroders Greencoat LLP, we have selected Plug Power to supply its GenEco PEM electrolysers for our first phase of green hydrogen projects in the UK - at Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria, Trafford in Greater Manchester and Langage, near Plymouth in Devon. The contract awards to Plug Power - totalling 55MW - are subject to Final Investment Decisions for each project, the first of which is expected to made before the end of the year.
Plug Power Inc. is a global leader in comprehensive hydrogen solutions for the hydrogen economy and will enter an equipment supply and long-term service agreement (LTSA) for our three green hydrogen projects. The award, subject to final investment decisions (FID), includes 30MW for our Barrow-in-Furness project, 15MW for our Trafford Green Hydrogen project, and 10MW for our Langage project. It is the largest combined electrolyzer supply contract in the UK to date.
The three projects, awarded contracts in the UK Government’s first Hydrogen Allocation Round (HAR1), serve as blueprints for industrial decarbonization and energy security, furthering the UK’s low-carbon hydrogen ambitions.
Eric Adams, Hydrogen Director at Carlton Power said: “This collaboration with Plug Power is a cornerstone of our strategy to deliver reliable, renewable power for UK manufacturers. Partnering with Plug Power ensures we’re combining proven technology with long-term investment and operational expertise. We're developing projects that sets a new standard for scale, performance, and sustainability in green hydrogen production, and furthering the UK’s industrial decarbonization.”
Jose Luis Crespo, President and Chief Revenue Officer of Plug Power said: “These projects underscore Plug Power’s growing leadership in the European hydrogen market and our ability to deliver scalable, reliable electrolysers for industrial applications. Through trusted partnerships and government-backed initiatives like HAR1, we’re accelerating the adoption of green hydrogen to help major manufacturers achieve their decarbonization goals.”
