TRAFFORD GREEN HYDROGEN TO SUPPLY WIENERBERGER BRICKWORKS in GREATER MANCHESTER

Trafford Green Hydrogen – the joint venture between Carlton Power and Schroders Greencoat  - is to supply green hydrogen to Wienerberger’s brickworks at Denton in Greater Manchester.

The green hydrogen produced by Trafford Green Hydrogen will be delivered via tube trailers to a dedicated onsite hydrogen offloading and pressure reduction station at the Denton brickworks for use in the world’s first commercial-scale hydrogen fired brick kiln.  Wienerberger is targeting the complete transition to 100% hydrogen firing across its entire site to commence in Autumn 2028.  Once fully operational, the company’s switch from natural gas to green hydrogen is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions at Denton by over 11,600 tonnes per year, equivalent to a 9% reduction in Wienerberger Limited’s annual Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions.

Trafford Green Hydrogen, located at Carlton Power’s Trafford Low Carbon Energy Park, will receive support from the Department of Energy Security & Net Zero (via its Hydrogen Allocation Round 1), whilst Wienerberger’s kiln conversion programme will receive support from the UK Government’s Industrial Energy Transformation Fund.
